Our History
Thank you for visiting Callaghan Mortuary & Livermore Crematory website. We have been serving the local community for over 110 years, and now we add this website to our list of family-centered services. Furthermore, our California mortuary has a long history of helping families lay their loved ones to rest.
Callaghan Mortuary, established and privately owned by the Reimers Family in 1906. The California mortuary was formerly located on the corner of 2nd Street and South L Street in downtown Livermore. In the mid 1940’s the Reimers family sold to Leo and Frances Callaghan. In 1959 with new growth establishing in Livermore the Callaghan family decided to build a new facility on East Avenue where we continue to serve our families today.
After discharge from serving in the US Navy during WWII, John R. Bailey attended San Francisco Mortuary College and after graduation served his apprenticeship with Mr. Bud DeYoung in Stockton. Mr. Bailey then came to work for Mr. Callaghan in 1948. In 1968 John and his wife, Elsie Ramos Bailey purchased the Mortuary from Leo Callaghan and have continued to operate and serve in the tradition set by Mr. Callaghan. Our committed staff cares for your family regardless of race, religion or tradition. Additionally, we are proud to continue to be privately owned and independently operated.
